US to walk away from talks if sides complicate end to war in Ukraine

The United States wants to see an end to the war between Ukraine and Russia, U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House.

“We’re going to get it stopped, ideally. There’s no specific number of days, but we want to do it fast. Now if, for some reason, one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we’re just going to say, ‘you’re fools, you’re horrible people,’ and we’re going to just take a pass,” Trump said, noting that he would walk away from the negotiations if the sides complicate efforts to end the war.

“A lot of people are being killed because of all this, and we’re not going to accept that,” the U.S. president noted. “I’m sure there will be a peace agreement. We have a good chance of resolving this.”

Trump declined to answer the question whether Washington would continue to support Ukraine if the U.S. were to leave the negotiating table.
