Azerbaijan regularly opens fire in the direction of the iron
smelting plant under construction with the U.S. investment in Yeraskh. The
latest incident occurred on July 10, when Azerbaijan fired single shots in the
direction of the workers.
In response to the inquiry from ABC Media, the U.S. Embassy
in Armenia stated that there cannot be a military solution to the conflict.
“Targeting civilian infrastructure is unacceptable. We
believe that the continuing violence impedes the progress made by Armenia and
Azerbaijan on their way to lasting and dignified peace and call for the
withdrawal of the forces. While the parties are working toward achieving
lasting and dignified peace, we again call on them to show restraint along the
border,” reads the embassy’s reply.
