Kallas says EU has range of tools to support strengthening Armenia-Azerbaijan peace
The European Union believes that strengthening ties between the South Caucasus and Central Asia aligns with common strategic interests and is ready to discuss a more structured partnership with Azerbaijan, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas said.
“Progress in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a historic opportunity, and it is important to maintain this momentum. The EU has a range of tools to support this — from confidence-building measures to demining activities, and we are already the largest donor in these areas,” Kallas stated during her visit to Azerbaijan.
She also met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The sides discussed regional and international security issues, as well as post-conflict recovery and reconstruction, humanitarian demining efforts, and the settlement process in the South Caucasus. The importance of ensuring lasting peace was again highlighted during the meeting.
