South Korea to fully ban sale and consumption of dog meat from 2027

South Korea will fully ban the slaughter of dogs and the sale of dog meat for human consumption starting in 2027.

According to authorities, 82% of dog farms in the country have already been shut down, while the remaining facilities are expected to cease operations by the end of 2026.

The ban was one of the campaign promises of Yoon Suk Yeol and is being described as one of the country’s most significant animal welfare reforms.
