The Security Council of the Russian Federation: The US is creating a “state within a state” on Armenian territory by controlling the “Trump Route”

The United States’ control over the “Trump Route” in Armenia could lead to the deployment of American private military companies (PMCs), as well as intelligence and other infrastructure, there. As TASS reports, this was stated in a commentary by Alexey Shevtsov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

“It should be borne in mind that ensuring security along the entire length of the road will be outsourced to the newly established US-Armenian company, while the Armenian side will exercise border and customs control. In practice, this could mean the ‘entry’ of American PMCs into Armenian territory and the appearance in this country—literally a few hundred meters from the border with Iran—of American intelligence and, possibly, other infrastructure. This naturally calls into question the security of the entire route and the shipments moving along it,” the Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council noted.

The US will be able to use sanctions to ban cargo shipments through the “Trump Route” in Armenia.

“It has already been definitively determined that all disputes concerning the implementation of the agreement on the ‘Trump Route’ will be resolved in accordance with the laws of the US and the State of New York, and the contractor company is granted exclusive rights to use the land. This implies that the Americans will subsequently be able to ‘filter’ cargo passing through the section of the route they control—to put it bluntly, to refuse to provide their services in one case or another. This could be framed, for instance, as a ‘sanctions-based’ prohibition preventing American companies, including the route operator, from cooperating with a particular economic operator,” the Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council noted.

According to him, the US is creating a “state within a state” on Armenian territory by controlling the so-called Trump Route.

“Taking into account the terms of the agreement and current US policy, including their recent attempts to ‘close’ the Strait of Hormuz, the reliability of the future transport corridor looks highly questionable. In effect, right in Armenia, in full accordance with classical post-colonial models, another ‘state within a state’ is being established—many of which were created in their time by Westerners across the territory of the former Soviet republics,” the Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council noted.
