Iran strikes vessel in Strait of Hormuz in first such incident since US agreement, CNN reports
Iran struck a vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz on June 25, CNN reports.
An unnamed US official said the ship was attacked by an Iranian drone. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which monitors maritime traffic in the region, reported that an unidentified projectile struck the starboard side of the vessel. No casualties have been reported.
Iran has not claimed responsibility for the incident.
The strike came hours after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that safe passage would only be guaranteed for vessels traveling on routes approved by Tehran.
It is the first known attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz since the June 18 agreement between the United States and Iran, which called for a 60-day ceasefire on all fronts and the start of negotiations to fully end hostilities.
