3 museums robbed in France within a month

Three major museum robberies have been reported in France within the span of one month, with the stolen items from the Tarn, Côte-d’Or and Bas-Rhin departments estimated to be worth millions of euros, according to Le Parisien.

According to the report, on July 1, around 40 coins dating back to 50 BC were stolen from the Montans Archaeological Center in the Tarn department in less than 15 minutes. The damage was estimated at more than €120,000.

Four days later, thieves broke into the Lalique Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder and stole 27 pieces of jewelry.

The burglars smashed six display cases, causing losses estimated at more than €4.5 million.

Another robbery took place on July 24, when a priceless gold necklace known as the Lady of Vix, dating back to the 5th century BC, was stolen from the Châtillon-sur-Seine Museum. According to the publication, one of the suspects has already been arrested.
