Israeli ambassador to the UN calls for arrest of New York City Mayor

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon has called for the arrest of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, accusing him of inciting violence ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the United States.

According to Danon, Mamdani is “sowing chaos” and “provoking attacks” ahead of Netanyahu’s arrival in New York on September 8 to participate in the UN General Assembly.

“There is a new mayor in the city who, instead of organizing and supporting the delegation, is calling for protests and provoking even more chaos on the streets. He called for the arrest of our Prime Minister, but I think if anyone needs to be arrested, it is the mayor himself, because his incitement has caused attacks against Jews in the city,” the ambassador noted.

Notably, in July, Mamdani stated that he was exploring the possibility of having the New York City Police Department arrest the Israeli Prime Minister under an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant. When lawyers explained that the city police do not have the authority to enforce an ICC warrant, the mayor instead called on New York residents to stage mass protests against Netanyahu’s visit.
