CSTO secretary general: The political leadership of the Republic of Armenia should clarify the prospects of its relations with the CSTO
At the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly meeting, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov noted that over the past year, their Armenian partners have significantly reduced their participation in the organization’s events. However, the basic interaction mechanisms are in operation. The Republic of Armenia continues to be a full member of the CSTO, and all obligations to this country are fully met. “We hope that the political leadership of the republic will clarify the prospects of its relations with the CSTO. This will be beneficial to all the members of our association, first for the detailed planning of future joint activities,” Tasmagambetov noted. He also said that the potential for conflict is growing in a number of regions directly adjacent to the CSTO’s area of responsibility. The situation in Eastern Europe and the Middle East is a cause for serious concern. According to him, the internal political processes in Afghanistan are complicated, and there are tangible risks in the South Caucasus. “At the same time, the CSTO is a key factor in maintaining stability in the Eurasian area, which can ensure the security of the member states of the organization,” the official noted.
