When the EU Mission in Armenia was to assume the duty of
patrolling along the border, both the RA authorities and the EU officials
emphasized the crucial role the mission would occupy in deterring the possible
Azerbaijani military aggression. Secretary of the NA With Honor Faction Tigran
Abrahamyan made a Facebook post on this.
“However, now Azerbaijan violates the ceasefire regime
even at their presence along the border, and even fires in their direction. In
fact, this was no accident, as Azerbaijan is informed of the EUMA patrolling
schedule as well. Now, when the situation along the border is somehow tense and
forecasts suggest that a new conflict may be looming, it is time for us to
understand and clarify the actual role of the EUMA and the political consequences
that will follow from its activities. In other words, we must understand what
benefits the Republic of Armenia derives from this mission from military or
political point of view, so that in the end, it does not turn out that this was
of no benefit to us and the only “award” that Armenia won was the
consequences of the Russia-West confrontation,” he wrote.
