Russia mourns with the Armenian people, foreign ministry says

Russia mourns with the Armenian people on the occasion of the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said.

“Today we express our deepest condolences to the Armenian people and, as always, we mourn with them on this day. I would also like to remind everyone that Russia’s position is objective and consistent: there can be no justification for mass extermination based on ethnicity,” the diplomat said during a state briefing.

Zakharova stated that from the very beginning, Russia has regarded this terrible tragedy as its own sorrow.
