Pope Leo XIV is putting a fresh spin on papal attire.

In a trailer for a new documentary about his years in Rome, Leone a Roma, eagle-eyed sneaker enthusiasts were able to spot the pope’s unconventional footwear choice, People writes.

A still photo included in the trailer shows Pope Leo walking on a grassy area, a pair of white sneakers with a black Nike swoosh sticking out from his ivory-colored robes.

Pope Leo has previously made headlines for his fashion choices.

During an appearance at the Vatican in June 2025, he stepped out wearing a Chicago White Sox hat. The White Sox’s Instagram page shared the viral photo of the Chicago-born Pontiff donning the black Sox cap. It later became known that he had been a devoted fan of the team since childhood.
