Overchuk says Armenia will eventually have to choose between EAEU and EU

At some point, Armenia will be forced to choose between membership in the EAEU and the EU, and Russia will understand Yerevan’s decision, Russian Deputy PM Alexey Overchuk has said, according to RIA Novosti.

“Of course, as Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said, we will understand any choice of the Armenian people. They are expressing their desire to move closer to the European Union. We have repeatedly said that membership in the EAEU and the EU is incompatible. Armenia understands this very well… At some point they will have to make such a choice, if they decide to do so,” he said at a forum in Kazan.

“Armenia is a very close country for us, an ally. It is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, the CIS, and the CSTO. And the human ties that unite us are very deep, very serious, and very long-standing. We have great respect for the Armenian people,” Overchuk stated.
