Iran’s $24B in frozen assets to be unfrozen, Tasnim reports

The visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to Qatar was successful, with progress reportedly made in the negotiations, Tasnim reports, citing a source close to Iran’s negotiating team.

Iran’s frozen assets are expected to be reactivated as part of the talks.

The source said that, under the 14-point memorandum, the amount in question is estimated at $24 billion. Iran is demanding that half of the funds be made available immediately after the publication of the memorandum, while the remaining amount should be transferred within 60 days.

According to the report, Ghalibaf’s visit to Qatar aimed to secure agreement on this demand and remove obstacles to accessing the initial $12 billion in the first phase.

However, the source noted that the United States is viewed as an unreliable party, and therefore Iran is approaching these issues with great caution.
