Medvedev congratulates Pashinyan on his birthday, referencing Trotsky’s path
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has compared Nikol Pashinyan’s actions regarding a referendum on membership in the Eurasian Economic Union to decisions made by Soviet politician Leon Trotsky, in a birthday message, according to ria.ru.
“Comrade Nikol has taken the dangerous path of Comrade Trotsky. Responding to calls for a referendum on which integration union Armenia should join — the EAEU or the EU — he recalled Trotsky’s legendary formula: ‘No war, no peace, but demobilize the army,’” Medvedev wrote on his MAX channel.
He noted that this formula led to the country being forced to sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk in 1918, but under “even worse conditions.”
“And Trotsky’s winding path ended quite tragically for him,” Medvedev added.
“Happy birthday, Nikol Vovayevich,” the official wrote.
