Lavrov says Russia will respect Armenian people’s any choice, ‘but let that choice be made’

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Izvestia that Armenia is facing a test regarding a choice between the EAEU and the EU.

“Neighboring Armenia is also being tested by the EU’s ‘either-or, choose’ approach. President Putin spoke about this in detail at a press conference on May 9. Armenia must decide independently and make its own choice: whether it wants to remain in the EAEU or join the EU. We will respect any choice of the Armenian people, but let that choice be made,” Lavrov said.

According to Lavrov, if Yerevan has already adopted a law officially launching its move toward the EU, it means that the Armenian authorities themselves have clearly raised the issue.

“If such a law exists, it means that you have already clearly put the question on the table, but let us be responsible for our words and for the appeal we make to the people,” Lavrov stated.
