
Over 4,500 hospitalized in Japan due to heatstroke in one week
More than 4,500 people were hospitalized in Japan last week due to heatstroke, the country’s fire and disaster management agency reports.
According to the agency, 4,580 people were taken to hospitals for heatstroke between July 6 and 12, while seven others died. Since the ministry began releasing such statistics in early May, the number of people hospitalized has exceeded 13,000, with the death toll reaching 12.
Japan typically experiences its hottest weather in July and August. On July 14, temperatures reached 38.4°C in Kōchi Prefecture and 37°C in Gunma Prefecture, located near Tokyo.
Every year, tens of thousands of people in Japan are hospitalized due to heatstroke, with hundreds of deaths reported in severe cases.
