Zakharova says political forces in Armenia favoring stronger ties with Russia face pressure
Political pressure is being exerted in Armenia against forces that support strengthening relations with Russia; this runs counter to the demands of Armenian society, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, according to RIA Novosti.
“The increasing pressure on political forces and figures fighting to preserve and strengthen allied relations with Russia continues. And, of course, this clearly runs counter to the demands of Armenian society for the development of bilateral ties,” Zakharova said.
She noted that Russia expects Armenian political parties, public figures and activists working to strengthen traditional bilateral cooperation with Russia to be able to engage freely in the country’s domestic political life and contribute to its development.
