Zakharova: There has never been any discussion in the trilateral working group’s activities about creating extraterritorial corridors in Armenia

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on Armenia’s response to remarks about the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” made during the Russian program “Weekly News.” Zakharova noted that the reaction from Armenia to journalistic statements on Russian TV is perplexing, adding that Moscow’s official stance is well-known to Yerevan.

“We have always heard from Yerevan that Armenia is committed to freedom of speech, especially since the current leadership has declared it a priority. Our country’s official stance is very well known to Yerevan. We have repeatedly voiced its essence. We emphasize the need for the unblocking of all transport and economic communications in the South Caucasus based on trilateral agreements,” Zakharova stated, adding that everything is clearly written in those agreements.

She noted that there has never been any discussion in the trilateral working group’s activities about creating extraterritorial corridors in Armenia. On the contrary, there was an agreement that the countries would maintain sovereignty over the routes passing through their territories. “Unfortunately, due to the destructive influence of the West, the trilateral working group’s activities have come to a standstill by Armenia’s decision,” Zakharova noted.
