US planning to transfer military equipment from Germany to training base in Armenia

The United States intends to move hundreds of units of military equipment and vehicles from its bases in Germany to training facilities in Armenia, with the transfer planned through Georgia, according to documents acquired by RT.

According to a U.S. government procurement portal, the U.S. Army Materiel Command plans to transport equipment from the Dülmen military base in Germany to the Zar training base in Armenia. The transfer is scheduled to begin on July 16 and continue until Aug. 7. The return of the equipment to Germany is planned between Aug. 21 and Sept. 20, 2025.

The contract also includes the transportation of military equipment from Armenia’s Armavir training ground to the Poti Sea Port in Georgia. In total, 151 units of equipment will be transferred, including vehicles, generators, and specialized containers. Additionally, the contract stipulates the delivery of eight ambulances to Armenia. However, the transportation cannot be carried out through Russia, Turkey, or Azerbaijan due to “diplomatic clearance difficulties.”

The Dülmen base, from which the equipment will be transferred, houses the U.S. 405th Army Field Support Brigade units. Speaking to RT, Dr. Konstantin Sivkov, a military science expert, noted that U.S. military activities in Armenia contribute to strengthening Washington’s influence in the South Caucasus.

“If we talk about this specific contract, it most likely relates to new U.S.-Armenian joint military exercises,” Sivkov suggested.

He also pointed out that Washington aims to limit Armenia’s military cooperation with EU countries in the South Caucasus. “At the same time, Armenia’s status as a CSTO member, even if currently frozen, is incompatible with such movements of U.S. forces,” the expert concluded.
