All trains in Germany halted for 2 hours due to communication system failure

All train traffic across Germany was suspended late on June 23 due to communication system problems, the Associated Press writes.

Train operations were gradually restored around 1:00 a.m. on June 24. In total, trains were not running for approximately 2.5 hours.

Germany’s main railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, said the disruption was caused by a failure in the GSM-R mobile communications system used for internal railway communications.

During the outage, Deutsche Bahn provided passengers with taxi and hotel vouchers to assist those affected.
