Peskov says Aliyev’s stance on Ukraine is deeply flawed

Russia and Azerbaijan have different views on the situation in Ukraine, but Moscow is taking a pragmatic approach and does not consider it necessary to link bilateral relations with such assessments, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said during a press briefing.

“There are a number of countries with which we have close relations and which share this position — a position with which we categorically disagree. Yes, this is an issue where we have differences,” Peskov stated.

“At the same time, we believe this is not a reason for this issue to cast a shadow over our bilateral relations. We believe we should develop our relations in every possible way, especially with a country such as Azerbaijan.”

Peskov stated that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s stance on the Ukraine issue is deeply flawed. He added that Moscow would continue to consistently and convincingly explain its position on the matter.
