Cuba’s national power grid collapses again, leaving island without electricity

Cuba’s national power grid collapsed on Tuesday, the energy ministry said, marking the third major blackout in nine days on the ‌island of about 10 million people, Reuters writes.

“There has been a total disconnection of the electrical system,” the ministry said on social media.

Following the previous grid failure, protests erupted across the country, with residents demanding the restoration of electricity supplies.

In late January, Trump signed an executive order that would impose a tariff on any goods from countries that sell or provide oil to Cuba. Since the Venezuela operation, Trump has said that no more Venezuelan oil will go to Cuba and that the Cuban government is ready to fall.
