Russian media report on ‘another attack’ by Armenian authorities against Robert Kocharyan and his family

Russian media outlets have extensively covered the transfer of Armenia’s second president, Robert Kocharyan, and his eldest son to the Anti-Corruption Committee, as well as the searches being conducted as part of the investigation.

RIA Novosti reported that Armenian law enforcement officers were also searching Pregomesh, a company owned by singer Sirusho, Kocharyan’s daughter-in-law.

Izvestia reported that the searches and Kocharyan’s transfer to the Anti-Corruption Committee came amid an ongoing confrontation between the Armenian authorities and the opposition. In July, opposition political forces announced a new, broader and more systematic phase of political resistance following a Constitutional Court ruling on challenges to the results of the parliamentary elections.

TASS reported that Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee has accused the former president of using his official position to acquire property at a reduced price. The report also said the second president of Armenia and the leader of the opposition Armenia alliance, Robert Kocharyan, has been arrested on the direct orders of Nikol Pashinyan.

Gazeta.ru described the move as “another attack” by the authorities against Kocharyan and his family.
