Iran partially restores internet access after 3-month shutdown

Iranian authorities partially restored internet connectivity Tuesday after an almost three-month shutdown imposed against the backdrop of the war against Israel and the US, France 24 writes.

The shutdown left Iranians largely cut off from international networks, with only a domestic intranet working for daily tasks like shopping, ride-hailing and education.

“The first step toward free and regulated access to cyberspace has been taken,” Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref wrote on X on Tuesday.

The Iranian government had cut off internet access on Feb. 28 following attacks carried out by the United States and Israel. The aim of the decision was to prevent surveillance, espionage, and cyberattacks. It became one of the longest national internet shutdowns ever recorded worldwide.
